How to disable auto-updates on Windows 10

Windows auto-update feature can be an inconvenience to windows users, mainly because of the poor timing or internet cost. In the blog post I will explain the two most popular methods of disabling windows updates

 

Disabling auto-updates from settings 

Step 1:

Click on the start menu and search ‘Settings’. Then Open Settings

Step 2:

Click on ‘Updates and Security’

Step 3:

Click on ‘Windows Updates’

Step 4:

Click on ‘Advanced options’

Step 5:

Under the ‘Pause updates’ sections, use the drop-down to select how long to disable updates

 

Disabling auto-updates using Group Policies

Step 1:

Click on start and the search for ‘gpedit.msc’ then open the Group policy editor

Step 2:

Navigate to the below section

Computer Configuration
    > Administrative Templates
        > Windows Components
            > Windows Update

Step 3:

Double-click the ‘Configure Automatic Updates’ policy on the right side.

Step 4:

Check the Disabled option to disable automatic updates

Step 5:

Click on ‘Apply’ then ‘Ok’

 

Both methods are effective and you can easily decide which to use based on your needs.
